Hans-Dieter Dreher dominates the CSI 5*W in A Coruña
The German rider again took victory in the Grand Prix of the day, this time in the Longines Grand Prix
The CSI 5*W A Coruña continues to offer us a high-level show. On Saturday afternoon, the stands at Casas Novas were completely filled with equestrian fans ready to enjoy the first 5* test of this second day, the Marqués de Riscal Trophy.
28 pairs jumped onto the indoor track at Casas Novas ready to achieve the best time of the course, only 6 of them managed to finish the test without knocking down any obstacles and it was the duo formed by the British Robert Whitaker and Gentlemen vh Veldhof who were responsible for doing so in the shortest time (58.47s). Pedro Aznar, National Commercial Director of Bodegas de los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal was in charge of presenting the trophy to the experienced rider.
Second place went to Íñigo López de la Osa Franco, a very young rider of just 21 years old born in Monaco. Íñigo took to the track with Nacco Blue Dnl and completed the course in a time of 61.41 seconds.
With a time of 61.92 seconds, the Swiss Edouard Schmitz rounded out the podium, achieving his second consecutive third place. This time, Edouard decided to ride Gamin van´t Naastveldhof.
Once the Marqués de Riscal Trophy was over, it was time for the moment that all the spectators had been waiting for: the first Grand Prix of the weekend, the Longines Grand Prix.
With a full house and a dedicated audience, 40 pairs competed in the big test of the day, an exciting 1.55m course with a jump-off, which 16 of the 40 teams managed to qualify for.
The jump-off round was very exciting, with a highly contested first position. In the end, Hans-Dieter Dreher was the winner of this precious trophy, together with Vestmalle des Cotis (37.51s). The German rider showed that he is in great form by repeating his triumph in the big test of the day, after winning the Caixabank Trophy on the opening day.
Hans-Dieter Dreher was presented with a Longines watch, presented by Elena Orozco, Brand Manager at Longines Spain, and with the competition trophy, presented by Flora Pérez, representing Casas Novas.
The second place in the classification went to the Frenchman Kevin Staut, after a dizzying ride of 37.94 seconds riding Visconti du Telman. The Frenchman beat Iván Serrano Sáez, who occupied the first place at that point in the test. Finally, the Spanish rider finished with a great third time, thanks to the 39.68 seconds in which he completed the course with Rain Man.
After a great day of horse riding, Casas Novas is preparing for the final day, the final day that will take place on Sunday, December 8.
This last date of the International Show Jumping Competition will have two tests corresponding to the 1* category, the Movistar Trophy, from 12:00 noon, with heights of 1.30m, and the Prosegur Security Grand Prix, the most important test of this category, which will take place from 14:00, with heights of 1.40m and a jump-off.
