Exciting victory for Olivier Philippaerts in the CaixaBank Trophy
Last day of the International Show Jumping did not disappoint the Galician fans that filled the grounds for the third consecutive day. CaixaBank Trophy, the final test of the CSI 5 *, had emotion until the end, with a vibrant winning round in which the winner was Olivier Philippaerts.
The difficulty of the course was, again, remarkable. Eleven places of the winning round were for the only clears at the first round. Among them was the Spanish Eduardo Alvarez Aznar, who finished in tenth position having a fence down with his horse Rokfeller of Pleville Bois Mar. Manuel Anon and Manuel Fernandez Saro ended without faults in the first round but a point of excess time prevented them to participate on the winning round.
The audience held their breath with every obstacle and was heard strongly at the end of each course. Finally, the speed of Belgian Olivier Philippaerts riding H & M Challenge V. Begijnakker was crucial to stop the clock in 57.71 seconds.
He was accompanied on the podium by his compatriot Jerome Guery, which adds this position to his second victory in the Marqués de Riscal Trophy, riding Pipillon Z in 52.57 seconds. Third place went to Italian Luca Maria Moneta and Connery, with a time of 53.83 seconds.
Thirty-first edition of the CSI A Coruna ends successful on public and participation.
