All set to start tomorrow the CSI5* A Coruña
Tomorrow will start at the Casas Novas Equestrian Centre the thirty-first edition of the International Show Jumping of A Coruña, where the best riders in the national and international scene will compete.
Casas Novas stables are already hosting more than 170 horses that will compete over the three days of competition and that will have today at 15h at the veterinary inspection to certify that they do not suffer any injury. Throughout the day free trainings will take place.
The CSI A Coruña program is composed of three days with two simultaneous competitions: a CSI5* and a CSI2*. A total of twelve classes will be disputed from which 5 punctuate for the Longines FEI ranking. Note that the Longines Grand Prix will distribute 500,000€ in prizes and will become one of the most important events on the international calendar. Longines Grand Prix will be broadcasted live on Eurosport on Saturday at 18h and also on Equidia and beIN Sports.
TOP LEVEL PARTICIPATION
The big stars of both the national and international scene have confirmed their participation in the CSI5*. Germany will have a significant representation by the hand of Marco Kutscher, individual bronze and team at the Olympics in Athens, gold in two European Championships and who has won several 5* GP this year, including Los Angeles, Valkenswaard or St. Tropez; Hans-Dieter Dreher, who has 19 points in the World Cup after the Grand Prix of Oslo and Helsinki with Embassy II, the horse that will jump on the big classes in A Coruna; and Philipp Weishaupt.
By Belgium will compete Pieter Devos; third in the World Cup of Madrid with Dream Of India Greenfield, Olivier Philippaerts, who comes from competing in the US; and Jerome Guery.
Maikel van der Vleuten, rider who is in the Top 20 international and recent winner of the European Championship and the WEG by Team, arrives at Casas Novas with their best horses: Kisby; horse that until recently had been competing Sergio Alvarez Moya, and Verdi, with which he has achieved its most important triumphs. Let’s see if the Dutch improves the fourth place achieved yesterday in the Grand Prix of Paris. Leopold van Asten, Dutchman who made history in 2014 by winning the Grand Prix of winter and summer, will try to repeat victory in the indoor arena.
Great Britain will be represented by the Olympic rider Michael Whitaker and his son Jack, by Laura Renwick, who is installed in Casas Novas after competing in Madrid; Joe Clinton and Yazmin Pinchen.
Lucy Davis, Laura Kraut, Edwina Tops-Alexander, Marlon Zanotelli, Cassio Rivetti or the quick Karim El Zoghby will be other big names that will sound in the competition during the weekend. In addition, it will also be Billy Twomey, third in the Grand Prix of Paris held yesterday with Tinkas Serenade.
Notably, several of the riders who come to compete this year have previously won the Grand Prix CSI5* of A Coruna, including Frenchman Julien Epaillard in 2006 and last summer edition 2015, the Dutch Henk van de Pol in 2008 and Leopold van Asten in the two editions of 2014.
Regarding the national scene, eight riders will take part in the competition. Including several members of the Spanish team, which just got the Olympic qualifier for Rio 2016. Eduardo Alvarez Aznar arrives at Casas Novas very fit with Rockefeller de Pleville Bois Margot, as the Spanish top-ranked in the European World Cup league and being in almost every jump offs of the GP he has disputed in recent months. Manuel Fernandez Saro and Pilar Cordon so do, coming to compete in the World Cup in Madrid. Gerardo Menendez, Manuel Añón, Julio Arias, Marta Ortega and Armando Trapote complete the list of representatives of the host country.
