Gregory Wathelet Winner Of The Grand Prix CSI5* In Casas Novas

At the moment of the big competition in Casas Novas, the public packed out the grandstands of the indoor track of the Equestrian Centre. 32 couples competed for the Casas Novas CSI5* Grand Prix, two rounds against the clock without jump-off and obstacles with a maximum height of 1,60 meters. The favorites were not lucky enough. The current Gold and Silver Olympic champions of the modality, Steve Guerdat and Gerco Schröder did not achieve to win a place for the second round. Neither did the winner of the previous race, the Asturian Sergio Álvarez Moya, who knocked down and decided to abandon. Finally, the winner of the race was the Belgian horseman Gregory Wathelet, riding a young 8 year-old equine, Sea Coast Forlap Dc. The couple completed the class in 40.87 seconds. In second position was placed the always competitive David Lynch. The Irish scored a time of 41.98 ridding Abberuail Van Het Dingershof. The third place was for the Azerbaijani Jamal Rahimov and Warrior, which leaded the event for several minutes. Spanish most distinguished of the Grand Prix and therefore winner of the Tyco Award to the best national horseman of the competition was Manuel Fernández Saro classified in fourth place with Elliot Dws in 45.45 seconds.
