Leopold Van Asten, Brilliant Winner Of Casas Novas Grand Prix
The anthems of Great Britain, Germany and Netherlands rang at the last day of competition at Casas Novas. The stands of the Equestrian Center Casas Novas were crowded in the twenty-eight edition of the International Show Jumping of A Coruña.
Leopold van Asten won the most important trophy of the entire competition: the Casas Novas Gran Prix, just half a second over his rivals. The pair formed by the rider from Netherlands and his horse VDL Groep Zidane made a time of just 41.24 seconds to complete the course, right after Karim Elzoghby took the lead with a mark of 41.72 seconds with his horse Amelia, that finally wasn’t enough for the win. However, it is a great success for the Egyptian, which confirms him as one of the best riders of the whole event, including his yesterday’s victory in the Porsche Trophy.
The third position was for Laura Renwick, who finished an excellent competition where she was able to win two classes (the Inaugural Trophy and the Eroski Trophy) and a second place (in the Porsche Trophy). The rider from Venezuela Gustavo Arroyo fell down but luckily with no consequences.
Besides, Paola Amilibia Puig earned a well deserved Tyco Trophy for being the best Spanish Rider in the final qualification.
DAVID WILL WINS THE PROSEGUR TROPHY
David Will, who had already finished in the third place in the Azcar Trophy the last Friday, is the winner of the Prosegur Trophy in this last day of competition at Casas Novas. The German rider completed the course in a time of 57.32 seconds with his horse Lesthago.
The second position was for the Brazilian Pedro Veniss and his horse Amemoi O Sandor, with a time of 58.08 seconds. The third place has been for the pair formed by the rider from Netherlands Leopold van Asten and his horse VDL Groep Amelie, with a time of 58.67 seconds.
LAURA RENWICK TRIUMPHS AGAIN IN EROSKI TROPHY
Laura Renwick, with his horse Beluga, won the Eroski Trophy, first test of the last day of competition in Casas Novas. With a final time of 42.75, Renwick stopped the clock one and a half seconds before than the following qualified rider. The British, who had won the Inaugural Trophy on Friday and finished second yesterday on the Porsche Trophy with the same horse, has shown an amazing level during the whole contest.
The second place was for the pair formed by the rider from France Aldrick Cheronnet and his horse U-Cantis, making a time of 44.31 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Spanish rider Carolina Aresu García Obregón, with the horse Xica, finished the course in 45.66 seconds to achieve the third position.
There was also a jazz event sponsored by Estrella Galicia and entitled Small Great Moments 1906, in which we could enjoy the music of Mr. Dixie.
