El único Binomio Nacional Ganador Del Gran Premio Telefónica En La Historia Del Concurso Se Ha Dejado Ve Hoy En Casas Novas
Jesús Garmendia is one of the most beloved riders of Casas Novas for two reasons: he is the only one of the national riders that had risen the Grand Prix Cup, and he has never missed any edition of the international show jumping event in A Coruña. On Wednesday, Jesús and his three horses arrived from Gijón with all of the motivation to do his best on the competition ring.
“I arrive in one hand very motivated and in the other hand with a sense of responsibility for being the only Spanish rider winner of the Grand Prix. And that makes you feel a little pressure; also horses’ fit has its ups and downs… So, we’ll see, what is obvious is that we have to go always with good vibrations. It’s logical that this profession entails a lot of tension, but God bless this tension that makes people to count on you or even be the favorite”, the rider said at his arrival in Casas Novas.
This afternoon, Garmendia, that assures that he never misses this event, has lounged his horses “to stretch articulations, to be more flexible” and had confessed that tomorrow they will do a “little more intense work”. Also he explained that “when you come to a competition of this level you need to come with the homework done, because when it’s two days for the start, there is no more left to do: you can only be ready”.
JESÚS GARMENDIA GIVES THE KEYS TO UNDERSTAND THE COMPETITION
“Overall I recommend the audience to come to the Grand Prix Telefónica and also to come to the classes that have a jump off, because they are very exciting. It is good to understand that what make the courses spectacular are speediness and all the turns we make near to the obstacles, because it is when you can notice the effort that the horse is doing. So, I will suggest the people to look those moments: the difference between the riders that choose the large option, that prepares very well the entrance to the jump and jumps clear, and the one that risk everything and goes short and fast jumping more flat and touches the pole or even getting it down”
Besides, the rider has stand out that show jumping “is a sport of a lot of precision and when you run at that speed and in those courses so shorts is very difficult that the rider works out the space when the horse has to jump”. “People think that is the horse the one that put all the effort during the course”, he expressed, “but it’s important to remember that it is an animal with a lot of strength and a lot of memory, but without the ability of measure an obstacle, for that reason the audience can enjoy a course and understand the decisions that the rider is taken”.
Furthermore, other riders’ horses had arrived today to Casas Novas. Edwina Tops-Alexander (first of the Global Champions Tour and ninth of the FEI Rolex Ranking) horses, John Whitaker, or the Añón brothers, from Galicia, had arrived Wednesday morning with their grooms.
Tomorrow at 15:00h all the contestants had to be in the equestrian center due to the Veterinary Horse Inspection. Tomorrow morning will be the perfect moment to train all the horses because the main arena will be open to contestants to test the surface and try out some obstacles.
