Yann Candele vence y convence en el Trofeo Longines
The Canadian rider, Yann Candele, won the Longines Trophy, after beating everyone else in a thrilling Winning Round. Candele, member of the national team of Canada, riding Usa Normande was number 12 in the Start List but that did not stopped him from setting an amazing time of 41,82 seconds. A quota that until that moment no rival had achieved, and that only Gudrun Patteet and Sea Coast Ideo d'O were able to approach being the last rider in the arena. The Belgian, who in 2016 won the same Trophy, tried hard but finally finished second with a time of 42.18 seconds. Completing the podium was the Spanish, Julio Arias riding Reggae du Tillard.
The victory of Candele takes on a larger dimension facing the fact that it is the first time he rides this horse, as is Nicolas Paillot the one that usually rides Usa Normande; but on this occasion he has not been able to compete in La Coruña because of a last minute injury. The Canadian has demonstrated that magic that led him and the Canadian team to be fourth it the Rio Games and gold in the Pan American Games of 2015.
AMAZING WINNING ROUND WITH FIVE SPANISH RIDERS
The Winning Round was exciting from start to finish. Five Spaniards were classified among the 16 participants: Luis Fernandez-Gil Fournier, Diego Perez Bilbao, Jesús Torres, Julio Arias and Gonzalo Busca Roca.
Already in the arena, Aldrick Cheronnet was the first to launch the challenge, by completing the course in 48.83 seconds, been this one his seventh exit to the arena without a single fault in this competition. But this time it had a stiff competition: Samantha McIntosh lowered the mark to 45.86 seconds, and then the Spaniard Diego Pérez Bilbao made the Galician crowd go crazy after finishing the course with a time of 43.21 seconds. Just two entries later, another Spaniard, Julio Arias, took the lead and left the mark to beat at 42.81 seconds. Then Candele with his magic and only the Gudrun Patteet got closer to the Canadian rider’s time.
Tomorrow the day will start at 11:30 with the Eroski Trophy, followed by the Prosegur Trophy at 13:45 and culminating with the CaixaBank Grand Prix - Trophy Tyco at 16:45.
