Big international impact and full house at CSI 5* W of Casas Novas
Casas Novas horse-riding center hosted one of the biggest competitions of equestrian sport in Spain, the seventh stage of the European League of the World Cup and that was felt at all levels in the contest.
Free tickets weren´t available since several days before the event at all distribution points, thus showing how Galician people’s interest on horse jumping is growing every year due to contests like this one which allow supporters to see top ranking riders and horsewoman live.
Big names such as Ludger Beerbaum, Denis Lynch, Maikel van der Vleuten, Luca Maria Moneta, Yuri Mansur, Matthieu Billot, Delaveau and Julien Epaillard, Lauren Hough, Alberto Zorzi, Henrik with Eckerman or Leopold van Asten or Pius Schwizer, all of them big stars and winners of some of the best tests in the world, were in Larín, Arteixo.
Spanish Olympic team competed in full, with Sergio Álvarez Moya as number one in the national ranking.
The equestrian atmosphere started before Friday, with the arrival at the Casas Novas stables of around 180 horses that competed during last weekend, as well as the support teams and participants.
The CSI began with four tests and the performance of the equestrian artist Lorenzo, who thrilled with his acrobatics and dressage show. The Frenchman climbed on the rump of his horses and jump through the sand of Casas Novas.
The winners of this inaugural day were Leticia Riva Gil, inaugurating the Spaniards triumphs with the Turkish Airlines Trophy; also, spaniard Otti Verdú in the Trofeo Marqués de Riscal; the Frenchman Mathieu Billot, who took the first test of CSI 5*, the NH Collection Trophy; and rider René López, winner of the Massimo Dutti Trophy, qualifying for the World Cup.
On Saturday, the Longines Grand Prix was held, with Irishman Billy Twomey lifting the crowd with a big win. The other winners of the day were Paloma Jiménez-Carmona in the Porsche Trophy and Ignace Philips in the Azkar Trophy.
On the last day of competition and with the Longines World Cup on the horizon, the other winners of the day were Galician Manuel Añón, who got a great performance at the Eroski Center Trophy; the Dutchman Maikel van der Vleuten, winner of the CSI 5* Prosegur Trophy; and the applauded victory of the rider Luis Fernández Gil Fournier in the Tyco Grand Prix, big prize at CSI 2 * A Coruña.
Finally, with the stands of Casas Novas completely full, the Longines FEI World Cup Jumping CaixaBank Trophy went to Colombia, to the rider Carlos López, who, after a hard first phase, was flying during the jump off with a time of 37.84 seconds with Admara 2.
The Colombian looked really moved during the awards ceremony and hugged his brother René López when confirming his victory, one of the images of the day.
The big hit for this year’s winter edition of CSI A Coruña has been the increasing media attendees both journalists and broadcasters. The major competitions held during last weekend will be broadcasted at Eurosport, Teledeporte and TVG.
